I give this review in the hopes that they will read it and improve, because I actually like the place. First, you're a steak house; SHARPEN YOUR STEAK KNIVES. But my primary problem lies with the food. I had the prime rib, and although it was tasty, it was a bit too tough, and difficult to get through the sinew. I also had a side of asparagus, and I couldn't bite through the tough stem base. The salad bar is primarily iceberg lettuce.
Last year the food was good. Apparently they changed hands and when I brought some friends there in November 2017 they were out of be several main dishes and a special we wanted before 7. No fish or steak so I ordered an overpriced salad bar that had no protein. Service was great and they offered us free desert.
I was excited when I heard that Hoku Nui ranch was the new owner of Makawao Steak house and that they would now be serving local beef. Unfortunately I have tried it three times now and have not been happy with my food. The only thing that was good was the steak tacos. The last time I went there I ordered a loaded baked potato and got a bland potato with a tablespoon of sour cream and some butter on it and that's it. Hopefully it's just growing pains
Friendly staff and customers. Good drinks and great bar food. I recommend the calamari
Great atmosphere. Meal was great. Was looking forward to locally sourced beef, but it was unavailable.
However, the place is obviously a busy local favorite, the ambiance is great, and the service was fine. I'd recommend it for the bar/lounge
