Besides going to Krank my other advice is to download MTB Project on your phone. Both Skyline and Makawao are on there and it made all navigation seamless.

“Moose” at Krank was awesome. He set two of my friends and I up with perfect bikes for the Skyline Trail. The riding route and side trails were well explained and the bikes performed really well. We will definitely be back for some more Maui single track! Thanks Krank Cycles!!!

At krany they try to squeen all the money they can out of you. To special order a bike costs around 200 dollars just for shipping.

If you MTB it's worth checking out what Maui has to offer. I have been to all islands except Oahu and MTB is severely lacking but on Maui there are some really legitimate options worth at least a day or two of exploration.

And, these guys will help you out with the best higher end rental options as well as all the directions and pointers you need so you don't waste time. We also got a rack from them, helmet and repair kit (both free of charge and glad I had the repair kit as I did flat on Mamane on Skyline.) All I really needed to bring myself were my riding clothes, hydropack, and my pedals and shoes.

Makawao has been very well built and I was more than surprised at the true "mountain biking" that exists here including the elevation (up and down) that can be had as well as the flow trail which was much longer than I had anticipated. Just watch out for the sticks and slippery leaves. You could spend 3-4 hours here easily to ride all the good trails.

The staff member I dealt with renting a bike to ride skyline was friendly and helpful. The rental bikes were nice. Unfortunately I had a spoke break while riding. The rentals are already marked up for riding skyline, and I felt very ripped off for the amount I was charged to replace a broken spoke. Put a very negative cloud over an otherwise pleasant experience

Skyline is a unique ride and there's nothing like riding down through the different elevations and climates. We did it mid-AM and that was perfect. My tip would be to do this instead of fighting traffic earlier and having a frigid experience. I'd also recommend adding some time if you can and riding the rest of the good Poli Poli trails while you are up there.

With the cost and hassle of shipping a bike or bringing it on the plane, this ended up being a better way to go. The two big rides/areas are Skyline and Makawao and this shop is perfectly located for both.

Really nice bikes. We rented a couple full suspension downhill bikes, drove up to the summit of Haleakala, rode down, then one of us hitched a ride up while the other waited with the bikes. Great time. No need for a tour. These guys get you maps for all the trails on the area.
